Mental Health Academy
To satisfy my annual ongoing professional development requirements as part of my Australian Counselling Association registration, I completed these 5 courses from Mental Health Academy.
The Diagnostic Criteria course was an opportunity to explore the classifications of disorders according to the World Health Organization in the case of ICD, and American Psychiatric Association for the DSM. While I'm not qualified to make diagnoses, as someone with an interest in public health, I find the criteria fascinating.
The Science of Focus was illuminating for someone who's productivity-obsessed in an age where our attention is engineered to be stolen from us, in particular online.
MBTI is a passion of mine, although I'm conscious of some of its scientific shortcomings in more rigorous settings.
As a former TV and radio presenter and producer of SYN's The Naugty Rude Show, a youth-focused sex and relationships program, I still have an interest in the topic, and have considered the prospect of obtaining qualification in sexology in the future. This particular course was run by the past president of the Society of Australian Sexologists, Anisa Varasteh of Relate Sexology, and was brilliant and tasteful, so much so I did another presented by Anisa, 'Healing Through Kink'.
While targeted to counsellors to complete continuing peofessional education, Mental Health Academy is available to all, offering over 600 courses to learn about mental health.
